Our Semester Two Academic Dinner was held on Tuesday 15 August and recognized the outstanding academic first semester results of our students.
Dr. Julia Playford, the Executive Director from the Office of the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage, at the Department of Environment and Science, was our guest speaker. With a B Science (Hons) from the University of Western Australia and a PhD from ANU, Dr. Playford has had an impressive academic journey. She joined UQ as a lecturer before dedicating the past 23 years to roles in Environmental Monitoring, Conservation and Biodiversity, and Science Development policies. Dr. Playford delivered an engaging and informative talk, sharing her experiences as an academic, discussing career choices, and emphasizing the importance of STEM in education.
Academic results were once again very pleasing in Semester One, with the College Grade Point Average being 5.23. Ten students were recognized for achieving a perfect GPA of 7.00 over a full course load in Semester One this year. In total, there were 73 students who received a GPA of 6.00 or better and 160 students who received a GPA of 5.00 or better in Semester One 2023.
