As the Principal of Cromwell College I would like to welcome you to the website and introduce the College to you. If you look at the history of Cromwell College you will see that it began as the inspiration of a group of Christian leaders in the late 1940s. Consequently, while the College is open to applicants of other religious beliefs or of none, it works within a Christian framework. In particular, the College emphasises values that are compatible with the Christian faith and which help build community, encourage personal responsibility and inspire balanced maturity. Leaving home for the first time is both exciting and daunting (for parents as well as students). That is why as Principal I work to make Cromwell College a home away from home where young people studying at The University of Queensland can find the friendship and support they need and where they can be inspired to seek their full potential as human beings. Our vision statement is: • accept Diversity, • create Community, • strive for Excellence, • pursue Spiritual, Intellectual, Cultural and Social Maturity, • serve Society and • care for the Environment. As can be seen from the statement, Cromwell encourages the development of a close and supportive community that is much more than just a place to stay. It is a wonderful way to begin life at University with the result that most residents of the College do well both academically and socially. Many will look on their time in College as a high point in their lives. For those of Christian conviction, the College provides the opportunity to meet with other Christians and grow in the faith while at the same time giving them a rich opportunity to live with, share with and learn from those of different beliefs. You are invited to visit the College at any time or ring the office if you wish to make inquiries. My staff and I would be delighted to assist you. I wish you well and hope to see you in College in the near future.
