Health and Behavioural Sciences (HBS) Academic Breakfast

Last Thursday the first Academic breakfast was held for this semester. Our guest was Associate Professor Marina Reeves who is the Deputy Associate Dean (Researcher Development) in the Faculty of Medicine and Associate Professor (Nutrition) in the School of Public Health at UQ. She is also an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian and Heads the Nutrition Unit within the School.

Her program of research is focused on the role of weight management, diet and physical activity in improving outcomes for women diagnosed with breast cancer. Her research has been funded by a grant and fellowship funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). Marina is currently leading a pilot study evaluating an exercise and diet intervention for women diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Marina spoke about her passion for her work which is balanced between teaching and research and the importance of becoming involved in a diverse range of interest groups while studying.

The students attending the breakfast found her to be very down to earth and energetic personality with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
